Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) have revolutionized diabetes management by providing real-time data on blood glucose levels. In the United Kingdom, there are four main CGMs available: Freestyle Libre 2, Libre 3, Dexcom G6, and Dexcom G7. Choosing the right CGM for your needs can be challenging, but a technical drawing comparison can help you make an informed decision.
In this blog post, we will introduce a technical drawing that allows you to visually compare these CGMs. This tool can be printed at full size on A4 paper, so you can cut out individual CGM images, including adhesive borders, to compare their physical footprint. Placing them on body parts or on top of each other will give you a clear idea of their size.
Before diving into the specifics of each CGM, let’s understand how to use the technical drawing effectively:
- Print at Full Size: Ensure that you print the technical drawing on A4 paper at its full size. This step is crucial to accurately compare the sizes of the CGMs.
- Measure for Accuracy: Use a ruler to measure the provided scale on the drawing. This will help you verify that your print settings are correct and that the scale is accurate.
- Cutting Out CGM Images: The red lines on the drawing indicate where you should cut out each CGM image. These cutouts include the adhesive borders, replicating the real-life dimensions of the devices.
You can download it here.
I do not yet have access to a Dexcom G7 to accurately measure to produce the necessary drawing. If you have a Dexcom G7, and can take some measurements that would be fantastic.
Please note this is all my own wok and has been made from physically measuring the devices. As such I do not provide any warranty; it is simply a tool to help but proper advice from a medical professional should always be sought.
