Post diagnosis I’ve only flown once, pre-diagnosis (and pre-pandemic) I was out of the UK 3 or 4 days a week and so was a regular at most EU and some US airports! I probably got more flights than I did train journeys and car rides!
Yesterday was my first solo flight with T1 diabetes; I was a little paranoid and surrounded myself with glucose tablets and full fat coke just in case. I ate the plane food, injected along the way as needed. Thankfully this is also the first week of using my new Libre 3, a true CGM not a FGM, and I love it. I probably had the app open for around 80% of the flight watching what was going on! That said I had no issues and stayed in range for most of the flight only going high for around the last hour or so (of an 8 hour flight). Not bad and no lows! A rush through Newark Airport carrying too many bags did cause a low in the cab journey to the hotel but was easily fixed with some glucose tablets.
So there we go, that’s another first out of the way!
