Welcome to a special edition of “Problem Solving My Pancreas”! I’m Becky, and for the next few weeks, I’ll be taking over to share an exciting journey with you. In this “Tecky Becky Takeover,” I’ll be documenting my experience of wearing a Libre Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) as I train for and compete in an Olympic Triathlon at Lake Windermere. Although I’m not diabetic, I’m curious to see how my blood sugar responds to intense training, racing, and various foods during this time. Join me as I dive into this experiment, sharing insights through annotated screenshots from the CGM app and photos of my activities and meals on the Threads app.
For those unfamiliar, an Olympic Triathlon consists of a 1500m swim, a 48km bike ride, and a 10km run. Lake Windermere, nestled in the picturesque Lake District of England, provides a stunning yet challenging backdrop for this endurance test.
I’m doing this to raise awareness and help diabetics, especially my partner, understand just how volatile blood sugar levels are for a non-diabetic. By documenting these fluctuations, I hope to gather insights that can assist her in managing her own diabetes more effectively. She wears a Dexcom CGM and an Omnipod 5 insulin pump, and through this experiment, I aim to shed light on the similarities and differences in our blood sugar responses, providing valuable information for her diabetes management.
To make it easy for everyone to follow along, I’ll be using the Threads app to post regular updates.
